The Challenge

The challenge was to choose some 'Hero' pieces from the partywear section or the suits section of the Topman website and style the pieces so that you can go straight from day to night with a couple of simple changes.

My 'Hero' Pieces

Blue And Grey Wool Blend Prince of Wales Check Skinny Fit Suit Trousers

The Day Time Look

For the day I chose a plain white long sleeved T-Shirt which has grey stitching to coordinate with the grey in the outfit. Keeping the look paired down I also wore white pumps creating a simple but strong look.

The Night Time look

To take it up a notch I changed into a white cotton shirt and a navy bow tie. The pocket square and cuff links add some elegant details. I switched out the white pumps for some black suede slippers and I was ready to party!

Work Day Styling with Blu Murray Shirts

Craig of That Dapper Chap takes three shirts by Blu Murray and shows us three different styles.

"Fashion changes, Style is eternal"

Meet Blu Murray

Blu Murray is a Dutch menswear brand that offers shirts that fit better, feel better and last longer. They operate with the belief that high-end pieces should be affordable to all and that luxury comes with comfort.

"we dispel the illusion that good quality comes at a higher price. Our shirts offer a modern British cut with a contemporary style"

Made from a high yarn content cotton with a refined weaving technique, the shirts are soft and breathable.

The Shirts

I ordered the white fine twill shirt with French cuff, priced at £30 (40 Euro) it's perfect for the party season and that more formal event. in 100% cotton it has a mid spread collar and is a slim fit.

The Allure, white twill and navy Oxford shirts from Blu Murray

I also ordered the blue 'Allure'. It has a micro check pattern and a classic spread collar and is a slim fit. The third shirt is the navy Oxford. With a cut away collar and singled rounded cuff it's made from 100% cotton.

Look One

For look one, I wore the white twill shirt under a classic navy blazer and with navy chinos. wearing separates rather than a suit makes the look less stuffy than it may have, particularly as I'm also wearing a bow tie.

As the bow tie had an orange stripe I chose accessories to compliment it with the pocket square and lapel pin.

Footwear was a pair of orange socks under some classic black leather brogue boots.

Tegan Marigold Flower Lapel Pin by Dapper Lapel £19.00

Penny Farthing CuffLinks from Etsy £17.00

Look Two

With the navy oxford shirt I pulled out my grey herringbone suit. I did wear all three pieces including the waistcoat but as it was unseasonably warm, I had to lose it.

As the suit has small red and blue flecks in the material I opted for red accessories such as the red and blue diagonally striped tie, bobble hat and socks along with red lapel pins. I also wore my Daniel Wellington watch with a red and blue striped nato band

The shoes are a thick soled black leather apron boot.

Look Three

For the final look I wore the blue 'Allure' shirt. for a more relaxed look I wore a denim blazer and again I chose to wear a pair of navy chinos.

Accessorising with yellow accents, the navy and blue striped tie and yellow pocket square and lapel pin keeps the look together.

The yellow socks continue the theme and the navy and tan two tone brogues finish the look, adding additional interest.

The Detroit Comb

Craig of That Dapper Chap adds a Detroit comb to his armoury of grooming tools

Detroit Comb Company was co-founded by Jeremy Yagoda and Michael Snyder in 2014. The idea to locally manufacture stainless steel combs in Detroit was born from a conversation about the manufacturing history of the City of Detroit. Jeremy wondered why so many manufacturers left Detroit then asked why they couldn’t make something in Detroit.

Each Detroit Comb starts as a sheet of 304 stainless steel in their manufacturing facility just south of 8 Mile Road in the City of Detroit. Each stainless steel sheet is laser cut to produce each style of comb offered by Detroit Comb. Each comb is then hand finished and then manually stamped.

Every Detroit Comb is produced, laser cut and finished in the USA.Detroit Combs are a permanent replacement for plastic combs. In a world where more and more things are made cheaply in Asia and elsewhere, Detroit Comb is a breath of fresh air.

When people think of a comb it's something that's often paid little respect, after a life of using cheaply made, low quality combs that far from impress.

"We couldn't be more pleased about our launch and more confident in what our combs deliver" commented a spokesman from detroit Comb. "From our product quality, to the level of customer service we deliver, our mission is to exceed expectations. We're going to see Detroit Comb become the brand people think of when they think of a 'real mans' comb"

In addition to combs, they also offer fine leather sheaths in black and brown to beautifully protect your Detroit Comb. Each leather sheath is handmade in the City of Detroit by acclaimed local craftsmen Douglas & Co. who are a family owned company specializing in custom handmade premium leather products.

Detroit Comb currently offer two versions: The "313" comb which features clean round edges and wide teeth spaced well apart which is suitable for all hair textures and lengths including curly, thick, straight and long hair.

Dimensions are approximately 5.30 x 1.30 inches.

Then we have the "The Woodward" comb which
features clean straight edges and is a medium tooth comb with teeth spaced fairly close together compared a wide tooth comb and is suitable for medium and fine hair.

Dimensions are approximately 5.30 x 1.30 inches.

The White Stuff SS16 Press Event

Craig of That Dapper Chap attends the White Stuff SS16 Press event and enjoys a great meal and gets a peek at some of the new collection.

I'm relatively new to White Stuff, I've been into their shop in my local town a few times and have fallen in love with their style! I am converted and I'm a huge fan. So much so that I recently did a shoot for their Hidden Havens campaign dressed head to toe in White Stuff menswear.

I was therefore really excited to be invited to their SS16 press event, a three course meal at the swish Carousel restaurant in London.

the beautifully decorated table

As I often do I arrived early and the guys were still setting up, as I made my apologies I realised that it was a great opportunity to take a few pictures before everyone else arrived. And before you ask, yes I was dressed in White Stuff!

The table was beautifully dressed in a rustic botanical theme and each guest had their own animal egg cup delightfully inhabited by a little succulent which I thought was a great touch. There was a bit of swapping going on very early which cats being swapped for bears and polar bears being swapped for foxes (that was me)

Scrumptious canapes. I could easily have eaten every one
wine poured and ready for guests
As guests arrived, the wine and conversation flowed. There were various magazine fashion editors and freelance writers, all enjoying the collection and taking notes. The photographer snapped away and we enjoyed a few delicious canapes before we were ushered to our seats for our meal.

I have to say the meal was amazing! We started with prawn and chorizo risotto with crusty bread. This was followed by slow cooked pork belly on a bed of dressed lentils and for desert there was chocolate meringue. Every course was delicious and all helped down by one or two glasses of wine.

After the meal we talked some more and I chose my favorite pieces from the new range. Anyone out here who knows me knows that I'm a sucker for a quirky printed shirt and the SS16 range doesn't disappoint. My particular favorites (and I couldn't choose between the two) are the bicycle print shirt which has small colourful images of people riding their bikes dotted on a cream background, and the and the drinks shirt which is a busier print covered with bottles and glasses. A perfect party shirt (for me anyway, judging by the amount of wine I consumed that evening!)
