Uomo The Red By Trussardi

Craig of That Dapper Chap reviews Uomo The Red, the latest fragrance from Trussardi

Product

This review focuses on the brand new Uomo The Red Eau de Toilette mens fragrance from Trussardi. As with any sponsored post, like this one, I will review it with complete honesty.

Launched fully on 18th September it's now available online and in stores

Masculine and elegant, Uomo The Red has been created by famous perfumer Aurélien Guichard and was directly inspired by more manly activities such as sports cars and gentleman clubs.

With a woody and spicy floral fragrance, it has top notes of lemon, nutmeg, galbanum and cognac, a heart of geranium, violet leaf and clary sage and a base of tonka bean, patchouli and leather.

Price

The fragrance comes in three different sizes for three different prices:

30ml - £39.00
50ml - £54.50
100ml - £74.50

In my opinion this is a good price for a good quality fragrance from a great brand.

Packaging & Presentation

My fragrance arrived wrapped in red tissue paper in a Trussardi bag. I'm not sure how yours will arrive but I guess it's how you can expect to receive it if you were to purchase a bottle in store.

The box itself conjours up images of that gentleman's club eluded to earlier with it's crushed velvet and gold text, and reflects the Italian excellence and history of the brand.

Performance

What everyone wants from a fragrance is lasting power. I applied the fragrance first thing in the morning at 7:30am. I used 7 squirts, rubbed my hands together and applied it to my face, neck and chest.

When I arrived at work I was greeted with "you smell nice" so it was immediately apparent that it has an impact.

At midday I did a 'sniff test' with some of my colleagues and the fragrance was still very noticeable. Some guys like to re-apply a fragrance during their lunch break but I didn't as I wanted to see just how long it could be detected for.

When arriving home at 5:30 I could still smell the fragrance on myself but to a much lesser degree. so, for me it's significant enough to last for most of the day.

Pertinence

I'd suggest that this is a fragrance for a slightly older audience. It's not boisterous and youthful in its approach and has a more sophisticate presence.

If you're looking for something that's very on trend and follows the same nose as other fragrances that appear on the shelves of the high street giants, this might not be your thing. If however you're looking for something with a classic and masculine scent try it out.

Pro’s & Con’s

The fragrance is fresh and does have a masculine depth. It's certainly a mans man fragrance. It's relatively long lasting and I like the bottle.

On a less positive note I think the crushed velvet box could be considered a little 'tacky' for some people. I can see the intention, and some will see it as intensely decadent, but sometimes it can be a little 'strip club' Having said that, you're not wearing the box, and it'll inevitably be put in the recycling bin so it doesn't have to be an issue.

People

Laura's first comment was that "it reminds me of a gentlemans club, I like it" She went on to say "the box is very tactile, very opulent"

Ben said "It's a lovely box" about the fragrance he said "I quite like it. the smell is prestige, very classic and it'll suit a number of people"

Kelly was less enamoured "It reminds me of the 80's. I don't like it. It's very dated and the box reminds me of Liberace. It's very flamboyant"

Danielle commented "Oh, I like it, it's very posh! The smell isn't over powering, its very masculine and elegant. I'd let Alan wear that"

James liked the fragrance too but said "the box is a tad tacky, red velvet is often associated with seedy things"

Précis

Overall Uomo The Red is a winner. One person didn't particularly enjoy the fragrance. People liked the bottle but less so the box. It lasted long enough during the day and is a good price for what you're getting.
