What I Wore Today - Vintage Bow Tie Tuesday

That Dapper Chap shares his daily look. Today he goes for a vintage inspired outfit.

Full on vintage style in navy and brown

Today's look was built around this vintage waistcoat. It's predominantly navy in colour with an orangey brown check. So, with that it mind I went for a navy and brown ensemble. Because it's a true vintage item I also styled the look with other vintage elements to keep the theme specific.

The outfit flatlay as seen on Instagram

Under the said waistcoat is a slim fit plain white shirt and over the top is a simple brown cardigan to add an extra layer as it was a tad chilly today.

Today's heritage look

New vintage style glasses in newsprint grey

I wore my brand new glasses today too, something old, something new, nothing borrowed and lots blue. Again these have a very vintage styling which compliments the overall look of this outfit.

I had to have them made and shipped from the US as unfortunately they have no stores in the UK and do not even ship here! A huge thank you to Instagram's CameOnStrong for sorting the logistics for me!

Making my way back to the office

New hair, new glasses & vintage waistcoat & tie

Continuing with that vintage theme I opted for an original vintage pocket watch instead of a wristwatch, the new two tone brogues also make the look cohesive, continuing with the heritage focus and colour scheme.

Product Review - Jack Black Grooming

That Dapper Chap introduces us to Jack Black male grooming products and reviews their beard lube and facial cleanser.

Available online directly from from male grooming site mankind.co.uk Jack Black offers a wide range of mens grooming products from hair gels to sunscreen and from lip balm to deoderant. They really do cover everything, head to toe, literally!

Today I'm reviewing the Beard Lube and the Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser.

The Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser

Jack Black describes the Facial Cleanser as "A dual-purpose 2-in-1 liquid cleanser and toner which removes deep-down dirt and oil, for clear, smooth, shave-ready skin. It works gently, without over-drying, to leave your complexion clean, hydrated and fresh" Sounds good right? so, lets see if it lives up to what they say!

I use a face wash on a daily basis, it's way less harsh than soap and they are specifically formulated for the skin on your face. I generally use a basic one and not one that's designed solely for men so this was a new experience.

The face wash lathers well and rinses off easily leaving no tangible residue and my face felt clean and smooth afterwards. Exactly what you need from a facewash. It has a very mild smell, it's neither overpowering or intrusive, it's a nice fresh scent. It's not going to make you look ten years younger or instantly get rid of acne but it is a good quality daily product.

Jack Black states "PureScience® formulas lock in nature’s best, using certified organic ingredients, with no parabens, fragrance or colorants. And, always dermatologist tested" So, what's not to like!

What's in it?

  • Oat and coconut derived, sulfate-free surfactants gently but effectively cleanse the skin.
  • Witch Hazel acts as a natural astringent with soothing properties.
  • Certified Organic Sage Leaf and Rosemary provide antibacterial and healing benefits.
  • Certified Organic Chamomile and Aloe Leaf help soothe and reduce redness.

When do I use it?

Apply a coin sized amount to wet hands, work into a lather and apply to face with fingertips using a circular motion. Rinse. Use in the morning before shaving, and at night to cleanse skin.

The Beard Lube

I, like a lot of guys right now have a short beard, that said I do still shave. I keep my beard in shape and shave my neck area, keeping my beard neatly under my chin. I have used shaving products in the past and even an old fashioned badger hair brush and solid foam, so this is a little different.

With Jojoba and Eucalyptus, Jack Black says of their beard lube "It's an entirely new way to shave. Unlike traditional shaving foams and gels which can dry out skin, our award winning Beard Lube® is a pre-shave oil, shave cream and facial skin treatment in one easy-to-use product specially formulated for men's shaving needs"

They go on to say that "the unique formula contains phospholipids - a rich source of essential fatty acids that are essential to the function of cell membranes - to bind moisture to the skin and support the natural skin barrier. The lightweight, penetrating formula not only helps prepare your beard by penetrating and softening whisker growth, it holds in moisture so your shaving blade glides easily. Refreshes skin, too, for an easier, smoother shave and less razor burn"

This award winning product (Mens Health Grooming - Best Shave Cream 2011) is quite translucent which means that you can see where you're shaving. I found this helpful as it can prevent you from getting nicks and cuts. It went on easily, felt good on the skin and didn't clog my blade like some other products can. It's also really light and rinsed off easily.

Like the face cleanser it has a very light fresh scent that won't interfere with your aftershave or cologne.

As with the face cleanser it uses certified organic ingredients, with no parabens, fragrance or colorants. And, always dermatologist tested.

What's in it?

  • Macadamia Nut Oil, Jojoba Oil and Glycerin provide a lubricating, protective cushion.
  • Phospholipids bind moisture to the skin and support the natural skin barrier.
  • Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Menthol refresh and revitalize skin.
  • Heather helps calm and soothe skin.

How and when do I use it?

Apply a nickel-size amount to wet hands, work into a lather and apply to face with fingertips using a circular motion. Rinse. Use in the morning before shaving, and at night to cleanse skin.

What I Wore Today - A Touch Of Pink

That Dapper Chap shares his daily look and today chooses to wear a hint of pink on this bright spring day

Do I take off my jacket? Do I keep it on?
Well, it was a beautiful spring day but as I type the British weather has predictably flipped from promises of warm summer sun to Autumnal style showers. Someone get me on a plane to somewhere with weather that I can rely on! Not only is it irritating for the "shall I take an umbrella?" moments but it can be so difficult to prepare what to wear in advance. I wanted to wear my new loafers the other day with a rolled up chino and no socks. On the morning it was clear that the wet weather and chilly winds had other ideas for me!

Anyway, my typically British weather rant over I'll move on and tell you about this outfit. I've been wearing a lot of navy lately so I wanted to switch out and go for something a little more colourful. So, with spring flowers in mind I chose a look with pink accents.

The outfit layout, all ready to go

Today's wrist wear keeping it tonal
This pale pink shirt has a subtle pin stripe in it which add interest to an otherwise plain shirt. For some contrast and texture I added a knitted dark pink tie, again with a similar stripe which would run in the opposite direction. With a bolder stripe on the shirt this may not have worked but as it is a less obvious pattern I think I managed to pull it off.

A fully look at he entire outfit
The camel chinos add some neutrality, keeping it more conservative for the office but I had to have a pop of colour from the socks, again in a dark pink to compliment the tie and help bring the look together.

A close up of todays footwear

Ready for what the day holds
The blazer is a dark burgundy colour, fully lined with patch pockets. I know that a lot of guys aren't a fan of patch pockets but I don't find them offensive and this isn't an overly formal look so I think it works here.

Accessories consisted of my usual bead bracelets and a pink lace wrist band along with a vintage tie clip, to stop my tie doing things that I didn't want it to. I also wore my beaded trouser chain which I'm becoming more and more a fan of. In addition I wore a pink flower lapel pin giving another nod to spring and a pink linen pocket square I was ready for the day.

I was one told "always walk like you have somewhere to go"
