London Collections: Men - Day 1

Craig of That Dapper Chap takes us to the shows and presentations on day one of this seasons London Collections: Men

I can't believe that it's been six months since the last London Collections: Men. With new designers and new locations I was excited to once again be a part of it.

My LC:M started on Thursday night with the Noose & Monkey pre LC:M party where they showed off their new collection. Check out my blog post on it HERE

So, on Friday morning we rose from our slumber, enjoyed a hearty breakfast (you just never know when you're going to get to eat again at LC:M!) and jumped on the tube, ready for the opening event: The Topman catwalk show.

TOPMAN

wearing my Topman stone linen double breasted suit, I made my way to my seat. The lights dimmed and video screen on the ceiling tilted and shone light onto the catwalk. Time for the show.

This collection for SS17 was a celebration of Britain and its beautiful seaside towns. With a nostalgic vibe there were influences from the teddy boy and mod era. The 80's vibe continues too but given a sharp British twist and we saw a slim, narrow silhouette.

Phoebe English Man

Next on our list was Phoebe English Man. Predominantly a designer of luxury Womenswear she prides herself on creating garments with an attention to precision and beauty.

The presentation, held at 180 The Stand gave us deconstructed and relaxed layering in blues and greys. Shorts were a key feature worn with long line baggy hooded tops

Universal Works

After a very quick coffee it was off to Universal Works. Always with an interesting concept this season was no different.

beginning life in 2008 Universal Works have gone from kitchen table to over 45 outlets in the UK and Ireland offering us honest clothing based on great fit and strong design.

Oliver Spencer

This seasons collection from Oliver Spencer was one of my favourites of the weekend and didn't disappoint. Each piece is very wearable and really shows off Oli's talent as a truly great designer.

The collection has a strong 1950s Mediterranean influence, taking its inspiration from Oli's favourite house: Casa Malaparte on the island of Capri, Italy.

The Dunhill Summer Party

After a pit stop at Simon Carter (which I'll cover in another article) we made our way to the Dunhill Summer Party at their beautiful store in Bourdon Street. The stunning architecture and quintessential English charm was perfectly matched by the collection of beautiful menswear and accessories.

With champagne at every turn and beautifully delicious canapes, we made the most of the Dunhill hospitality and milled around with the guests in the warmth of the evening. Guests were also presented with stunning vintage sports cars where photo opportunities awaited.

So day one complete, it was the tube back to Hanwell for a well deserved rest before the excitement of day two! What treasures await? check back here soon to find out!
